The Bhardwaj lab in the University of Washington’s Department of Medicinal Chemistry and the Institute for Protein Design is seeking to hire a Research Scientist Assistant whose duties will be to provide experimental support for research projects in the Bhardwaj Lab.  The Research Scientist/Engineer will be part of a small team focused on the design, optimization, chemical synthesis, purification, and characterization of peptides and peptide libraries for both internal investigators as well as external collaborators.

This position will focus on computational design and high-throughput chemical synthesis and screening of peptide libraries. Research projects will focus on the development of peptides for developing antibiotics, antivirals and anti-cancer agents. Main duties will include chemical synthesis, purification, screening, and characterization of designed peptide and peptide libraries. Additional tasks will include helping with general lab support as needed under supervision. Experience in quality assurance, high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), mass spectrometry, and other biophysical characterization techniques is optional.

Candidate must have familiarity with office productivity software (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) to prepare research reports for the work performed.   Candidate must be proficient with sterile laboratory maintenance, and familiar with BSL1 requirements.  Candidate will assist graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and research staff with chemical peptide synthesis, peptide purification, mass spectrometry, peptide library screening, and biophysical characterization using established experimental protocols.
