The Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering (JSNN) seeks an experienced research scientist to oversee and manage research operations in the Cleanroom facility, ensure compliance with cleanliness standards, and maintain efficient workflows.
This role requires a meticulous individual with strong organizational and leadership skills, as well as expertise in cleanroom protocols and techniques. The individual will provide users with assistance and training, process verification, and statistical validation. The position is responsible for performing remote jobs, calibration and maintenance of equipment, and support systems.
The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic JSNN technical staff team of scientists and engineers with diverse expertise in material synthesis, fabrication, microscopy, soft matter, and analytical instrumentation. Work will be performed under general direction with limited support.
We seek an individual with extensive experience working in a cleanroom environment, with proven expertise in cleanroom protocols, and practices, and a strong knowledge of experimental and theoretical techniques used. Problem-solving mindset, with a proactive approach to identifying issues, implementing solutions, and preventing recurrences. Strong leadership, team management, and excellent organizational skills are required.
The individual will be required to drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize cleanroom processes, enhance efficiency, and reduce waste. The individual is also expected to stay updated on advancements in cleanroom technologies, materials, and methodologies, and recommend innovative solutions to improve operations and productivity.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit:


The Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering (JSNN) at the North Carolina A&T State University invites applications for a Cleanroom Manager position. JSNN houses a micro and nanofabrication (Cleanroom) lab. JSNN's Cleanroom is a 7,000+ sq. ft. Class 100/1000 level facility with over 30 instruments for various micro/nanofabrication, metrology, and characterization. JSNN's micro and nanofabrication core lab includes research in the areas of micro and nanoelectronics, nanobioelectronics, MEMS, optoelectronics, and fabrication of devices for sensors, medicine, and biotechnology. JSNN is a NSF NNCI partner site of the Southeastern Nanotechnology Infrastructure Corridor (SENIC).

Requirements:


  • Doctorate degree in a physical science, engineering, or related discipline. Consideration will be given to a highly experienced applicants with a Master's degree in engineering or physical sciences or related field with at least five years of cleanroom, cleanroom equipment, and fabrication process experience in semiconductor industry or at a University/National Lab.
  • At least three years of cleanroom, cleanroom equipment, and fabrication process experience in semiconductor industry or in University/National Lab.
  • Must be able to work independently and if required, work in a multidisciplinary environment involving complex processing equipment with scientists and engineers.
  • Excellent verbal, communication and writing skills; ability to interact with multiple levels of customers, both internal and external to North Carolina A&T State University.
  • Knowledge of safety and health issues concerning cleanroom equipment, operations, and hazardous materials handling and disposal

  • Preferred:


  • Semiconductor or other cleanroom manufacturing experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge of electro/mechanical equipment, and HVAC systems.
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience with equipment and project management.
  • Strong leadership and relation-building skills.
  • Ability to investigate and lead solutions to manufacturing constraint issues.
  • Ability to perform complex tasks in multiple areas.
  • Be capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact.
