The College of the Environment has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist 4 Marine Carbon and Biogeochemistry to join their team.

POSITION PURPOSE

Participating in, helping fund, and leading novel research related to marine biogeochemistry and carbonate chemistry.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

50% (1) Participate in, lead, and publish novel research; perform data analyses; and develop new data/science products that utilize and maximize the value of global biogeochemical Argo observations, and the observations returned by NOAA-deployed assets in particular.

25% (2) Participate in, lead, and publish novel research; perform data analyses; and develop new data/science products related to the carbon dioxide system in seawater and in service of NOAA’s climate objectives. Example expected research topics include improving the methods for monitoring and predicting seawater carbonate chemistry; quantifying anthropogenic carbon distributions and their impacts on (primary focus) seawater chemistry and (secondary focus) marine organisms; and/or directly monitoring seawater carbonate chemistry.

20% (3) Contribute to and, eventually, lead proposals securing funds to continue the objectives noted above.

5% (4) Present this research in national and local scientific meetings and outreach activities.
