The College of the Environment has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist 3 to join their team.

POSITION PURPOSE

Participating in, helping fund, and leading novel research related to marine biogeochemistry and carbonate chemistry

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

70% (1) Participate in, lead, and publish novel research; perform analyses; and develop new products related to the carbon dioxide system in seawater and in service of NOAA’s climate objectives. A primary research topic for this position is expected to be assessing the efficacy of marine carbon dioxde removal strategies through modeling and by monitoring a test implementation of one such approach.  Other example expected research topics include improving the methods for monitoring and predicting seawater carbonate chemistry; quantifying anthropogenic carbon distributions and their impacts on (primary focus) seawater chemistry and (secondary focus) marine organisms; and/or directly monitoring and mapping ocean carbonate chemistry.

20% (2) Contribute to proposals securing funds to continue the objectives noted above.

10% (3) Present this research in national and local scientific meetings and outreach activities.
