Deadline: Open Until Filled

As a UW employee, you have a unique opportunity to change lives on our campuses, in our state and around the world. UW employees offer their boundless energy, creative problem-solving skills and dedication to build stronger minds and a healthier world.

UW faculty and staff also enjoy outstanding benefits, professional growth opportunities and unique resources in an environment noted for diversity, intellectual excitement, artistic pursuits and natural beauty.

The Stella Lab in the UW Department of Pharmacology has an excellent opportunity for a Research Scientist 2.

The Research Scientist 2 supports a research project on the development of novel cancer therapeutics that are remarkably different from current standard-of-care therapeutics, are mediated by a novel molecular mechanism and show therapeutic efficacy for the treatment of devastating brain tumors, including glioblastoma. The research project will leverage molecular, biochemical, cells in culture and microscopy approaches to identify the molecular mechanisms that mediate the anti-tumor activity of novel small molecules.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• With limited oversight, perform experiments designed to quantify the cellular response to treatment, measuring enzymatic activities using biochemical and phenotypic changes of cells in culture using microscopy.
• Prepare laboratory reagents, record and tabulate data and keep thorough and detailed laboratory records.
• Independently design and implement portions of experiments.
• Analyze data and present results to the research group and contribute to the publication of manuscripts.
• Train and oversee other lab members, including undergraduates, graduate students, and junior research staff.
• Serve as lab manager, set up laboratory instruments and prepare laboratory reagents.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related field.
• At least two years of job-related work experience in a laboratory setting.
• Proficiency in common techniques in molecular biology (i.e., qPCR), biochemistry and cell culture.

DESIRED REQUIREMENTS
• Master's degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, or related field desired but not required for consideration.
