The Reh lab in the Department of Biological Structure has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist 1.

The Reh lab is located in the Department of Biological Structure, and is focused on the development, degeneration and regeneration of the retina. The work in the lab is funded by NIH, Foundation Fighting Blindness and other philanthropic and commercial sources. We are working to develop new therapies to treat blindness and work primarily with mice and human embryonic stem cells.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The Research Scientist 1 position contributes to the overall goals of the research team by performing the following types of tasks:

• Applying standard practices and techniques as required.
• Improving practices based on past project experience, to include building upon and expanding existing practices and protocols.
• Interacting with other team members in a collaborative manner to accomplish lab goals.
• Providing ideas to improve efficiency within the research team.
• Working with care, conscientiousness, and rigor in executing research duties, to include assembling and analyzing data for inclusion in reports and publications.
• Overseeing projects of limited scope from beginning to end, as assigned by the principal investigator (PI) or PI's delegate.

SPECIFIC LABORATORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Reh Lab is looking for a molecular biologist, with a minimum of a B.S. in biology or related discipline, and ideally with experience in bioinformatics. The job will entail utilizing many molecular biology techniques such as: PCR, immunohistochemistry, CRISPR, confocal imaging and tissue/cell culture. This position will support multiple post-doctoral fellows in the lab with on-going projects. Other lab duties as assigned by the PI or PI's delegate.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience, Biology, Biochemistry, or related biomedical field.
• One month to one year of relevant experience.
• Knowledge of fundamental concepts in biomedical research.
• Excellent organization and time management skills.

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum requirements.

DESIRED REQUIREMENTS
• Positive attitude and willingness to acquire new technical skills and learn on the job.
