 Manages all aspects of one or more projects for a research program and oversees all aspects of the project lifecycle. Provides leadership, technical direction, coordination, and expertise across projects. Analyzes progress and/or performance and prepares reports. Ensures compliance with budget, scope, timeline, and regulations. Assists with external communications.Our research program is focused on molecular mechanisms of head and neck cancer, novel biomarker discovery and developing potential drug candidates with the overall aim of early diagnosis and treatment of head and neck. The premise of current research projects includes preclinical, basic as well as translational research using multi-dimensional molecular biological, cell-based and mouse model platforms leading to clinical trials. This is a senior level managerial project research position accountable for developing conceptual project design, determining and performing appropriate experimental assays, data analyses, routine laboratory management and presentation of scientific results for peer-reviewed publications, and grant proposals. The selected candidate will manage our transgenic mouse colonies while adhering to various IACUC and institutional guidelines and perform laboratory assays (PCR, Western blot, ELISA). Applicants should have prior experience working with transgenic mouse colonies. This includes breeding (ear tagging, weaning and PCR genotyping), performing experimental procedures (sub-cutaneous, intraperitoneal and tail vein injections; oral lavage; facial or retro orbital bleeding) and tissue collection. The candidate will also perform day-to-day activities such as laboratory organization and maintenance, procuring and sourcing various lab supplies, cell culture, animal/human tissue processing (blood and tumor), maintaining inventory of reagents and tissues (e.g. cDNAs, cells, constructs, tissue slides), ordering and purchasing, updating protocols and methods. The incumbent must confer with researchers, faculty and representatives of potential granting agencies concerning research needs and methods, and actively participate with collaborators both inside and outside the institute and work dynamically with the principal investigator/medical director to prioritize the aims and activities of the research projects. As the project develops, the incumbent will also be responsible for interviewing and selection, orientation and training, work assignment, supervision and review of new and senior researcher employees in the group. The incumbent will also be expected to comply with specific institutional and government requirements and regulations. Minimum qualification: Bachelor’s degree with five to seven years of professional level research experience in the relevant field is preferred. Strong background and extensive experience with animal disease models, tissue processing, molecular biological and cell-based assays, analyses and interpretation of large datasets, and data presentation is required. A good publication track record and prior experience with developing research projects independently is a plus. The incumbent must be scientifically passionate and possess excellent organizational skills.

Essential Functions Will manage transgenic mouse colonies, independently perform in vivo experiments, and process animal/human tissues. Needs to be able to carry out independent bench work for routine molecular, cell biology, and animal facility experiments and analyze results. Must be both detail and goal oriented. Also, will set up new sophisticated equipment and maintain them and set up new research facilities and train researchers both within lab and collaborative research groups.
Physical Effort Applicant must be able to frequently carry trays of cell lines or animal samples weighing no more than 10 lbs. Must be able to stand and walk around the laboratory for prolonged periods of time. Able to climb up to 4 ft with a ladder to reach and store laboratory equipment and supplies. Meticulous at surgical removal of animal tissues, microinjection and data acquisitions.
