Position Information

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The Gillings School’s Department of Nutrition is a global leader in research and training. We are the only nutrition department in the United States situated in both a school of public health and a school of medicine. We engage in innovative work that capitalizes on both these schools’ approaches to health, and thus our department has an unusual breadth of scientific and policy approaches. Our faculty expertise spans from cell to society and moves from discovery to delivery. Our faculty and students work throughout North Carolina and reach populations in China, India, Malawi, Spain and the Philippines, to name a few.

Position Summary

UNC Chapel Hill recently received funding to establish both a targeted Health Care Provider Organization (HPO) for the All of Us Research Program and a Clinical Center (UNC-CC) site for the first ancillary study, Nutrition for Precision Health (NPH). All of Us is a unique research program funded by the NIH to build one of the most diverse health databases in history. The goal of the Nutrition for Precision Health, powered by the All of Us Research Program is to develop algorithms that predict individual responses to food and dietary patterns. The NPH Consortium includes six clinical centers, a dietary assessment center, a metabolomics and clinical assay center, a microbiome and metagenomics center, an artificial intelligence, multimodal data modeling, and bioinformatics center, and a research coordinating center.

The Senior Project Manager position will be responsible for overall management and coordination of the NPH UNC-CC including two recruitment/clinical data collection locations, UNC-CH, located in the Lineberger Clinical Suites (1700 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd, Chapel Hill), and UNC-NRI, located at the UNC Nutrition Research Institute (Kannapolis, NC). Both locations will enroll study participants for All of Us and NPH. Position responsibilities include collaboration with UNC study team and All of Us leadership to establish HPO according to required specifications including capacity to transmit EHR datasets from UNC Health and Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center; collaboration with the full NPH consortium to ensure development of cohesive study aims, protocols, and procedures; oversee development, coordination, and implementation of all UNC-CC study activities; provide overall program direction and support to study staff, located on campus and at both data collection locations, to ensure a high-level of data quality and completeness; develop, implement, and monitor site-specific reporting to ensure study deliverables are met on time; provide budgetary oversight to ensure efficient use of study funds; provide direct and indirect supervision to study staff across locations including mentorship and professional development support; assist with additional grant development and support activities; assist with publication and presentation development as needed.

Given the highly collaborative structure of the UNC-CC study team and the full NPH Consortium, this position must be able to collaborate with investigators and staff across multiple institutions and within multiple departments, centers, and schools at UNC. The position requires substantial capacity to independently manage and coordinate research activities and staff across multiple locations and studies.
