The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Research Project Manager position.
Jobs in this career family provide direct professional support of research activities.  Functions include contracts and grants solicitation and administration, grant/agreement preparation, review and negotiation, regulatory compliance, sponsor communication and post and pre award management, human subject compliance, research animal management, research laboratory coordination and instruction, environmental health and safety, radiation control, hazardous materials use, disposal and training.
Program Managers are responsible for the day-to-day operation of a program, function or work unit, including the Development and implementation of processes consistent with college, school or departmental strategies and processes.  These positions typically do not supervise others.
Job Summary:
The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research (OVCR) at CU Anschutz is seeking a qualified Project Manager to manage projects leading to the activation of clinical trials.  The Clinical Research Project Manager will be responsible for University-sponsored clinical research projects encompassing all aspects of the translational process including, but not limited to technology transfer to the manufacturing site, Investigational New Drug (IND) enabling efforts, onsite Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) manufacturing and to the initiation of patient enrollment.  
This position will provide overall project management for University-sponsored clinical trials engaging with multiple stakeholders on the campus.  The key responsibility in this role are to manage overall project elements, develop and maintain project timelines, collaborate across academic units and escalate unresolved issues to ensure timely progress.  


Examples of Work Performed:

  • Cross-functionally manages project elements, including but not limited to, scope, schedule, cost, resources, action items, and risks for University-sponsored clinical research projects

  • Project management from the initial planning phases and coordination with the manufacturing facility through the eIND application to clinical trial site initiation and protocol activation to allow patient enrollment

  • Prepares and leads kick off and regular project team meetings with relevant stakeholders including: the principle investigators (PI), clinical research teams, clinical delivery teams, manufacturing facility, financial & administration (including grants and contacts), legal, regulatory and compliance

  • Works to balance competing constraints on the projects with available resources

  • Guides team members in working together to identify and focus on essential project tasks and deliverables

  • Works closely with the OVCR to ensure projects are appropriately resourced

  • Ensures timely communication and appropriate escalation unresolved obstacles to trial opening

  • Evaluate and facilitate process improvement in collaboration with key stakeholders

  • Closely coordination with budget team on financial tracking and keep accurate accounting of budget implications with project changes

  • Develop a continuous quality improvement plan, establish metrics of success and provide regular reports to leadership

Qualifications

 
Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a business, business administration, finance, accounting, education, social sciences, physical/biological sciences, engineering, healthcare administration, public administration, communications, information systems, or a directly related field from an accredited institution

  • At least four (4) years of professional project management experience

  • Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional clinical research experience in an academic medical center 

  • Professional experience in an academic research environment

  • Project management experience in an academic environment

  • Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) or Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification

  • Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university

  • Prior experience managing investigator initiated multi-center studies

  • Experience working with and knowledge of federal regulations related to clinical research, GMP, Good Distribution Practice (GDP), Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), and Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (CMC)

  • Experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously or previous work in a project management office role

Competencies:

  • A working knowledge of Good Clinical Practices (GCP), U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) rules and regulations in relation to clinical trials, National Institutes of Health (NIH) guidelines, International Council for Harmonisation of Technical Requirements for Pharmaceuticals for Human Use (ICH) guidelines, and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations in relation to clinical trials, and National Cancer Institute (NCI) common toxicity definitions.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution

  • Outstanding customer service skills

  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion

  • Exceptional knowledge of project management process, skills, and tools

  • Strong financial acumen

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills required

  • Experience managing process improvement projects

  • Ability to learn quickly and understand new technical concepts and processes

  • Exceptional multi-tasking and organizational skills, as well as the ability to make complex decisions in a fast-paced environment
