Job Summary

Reporting to Joshua Greene (PI) in the Greene Lab within the Department of Psychology, this Research Project Manager position will manage the Giving Multiplier project. This project is both a research project and a philanthropic endeavor using insights from the fields of moral psychology and decision science to promote more effective charitable giving.


Position Description

Research Collaboration

  • Builds understanding of research activities through regular engagements with partners in the Greene Lab and at Oxford University.
  • Analyses data collected through the Giving Multiplier website.
  • Designs and implements studies aimed at better understanding the psychology of charitable giving relevant to Giving Multiplier.
  • Assists with preparation of scientific papers, research reports, and funding applications.
  • Documents all processes and research.

Project Management

  • Works to build and maintain partnerships aimed at increasing engagement with the Giving Multiplier website
  • Investigates methods for successfully promoting the Giving Multiplier website including paid advertising, media appearances, and popular articles.
  • Manages Giving Multiplier social media.
  • Communicates with Giving Multiplier users and supporters.
  • Provides feedback to leadership team on scope of work and project plan and tracks progress of regular milestones.
  • Provides regular communications to project leads with updates.

Website Management, Maintenance, and Improvement

  • Collaborates with researchers and web developers to maintain and improve the Giving Multiplier website.

Data Management

  • Maintains accurate data collected through the Giving Multiplier website.
  • Maintains data collected outside the Giving Multiplier website for studies aimed at understanding donor psychology.

Information Security & Research Ethics

  • Uses sustainable software and data management practices.
  • Abides by and follows the Harvard University IT technical standards, policies, and Code of Conduct.
  • Ensures security of varying data types.
  • Works with best practices in terms of ethical research and data security.

Contributes to research progress by undertaking other duties as required.


Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in psychology, neuroscience, or related field. 


Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Ph.D. in psychology or related field preferred.
  • Extensive experience with behavioral research including study design, data collection, data analysis, and write-up.
  • Extensive knowledge of research on effectiveness in charitable giving and altruistic behavior.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
  • A track record of creative problem-solving.

Additional Information

This is a 9-month term position with a possibility of extension contingent upon continued funding to support the position.

Work Format Details

This position is based primarily on-campus, in Massachusetts. This may include in-person during emergency situations (if applicable). Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. Certain visa types may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
