The Duke BIG IDEAs Lab is located within the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Pratt School of Engineering. The Duke BIG IDEAs Lab is seeking an organized and motivated Project Manager. In this role, you will play a crucial role in coordinating and overseeing various research initiatives within our lab. You’ll work closely with faculty, student and trainees, researchers, and ex ternal partners to carry out project communication, documentation, and adherence to timelines. 

The ideal candidate will be familiar with clinical research and will have experience in people, research, and budget management. They will possess excellent communication an d leadership skills and be able to effectively coordinate and delegate tasks to team members and track progress to support our research goals of improving health through digital technologies. 

Key responsibilities include: 

Project Coordination 25% 

  • Manage multiple research projects simultaneously, ensuring seamless execution from inception to completion. 
  • Ensure adherence to research protocols and ethical guidelines.
  • Communicate with lab members to allocate resources efficiently (including personnel, equipment, and funding). 

Project Management 50% 

  • Coordinate research projects, including working with faculty and students to develop and maintain project plans and timelines, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Plan, organize, manage, and actively participate in project meetings
  • Maintain accurate project records, including protocols, reports, and data. 
  • Track progress on data collection and analysis 
  • Communicate with external partners as needed 
  • Support PI and lab members with grant preparation and submissions
  • Identify potential risks on projects and develop mitigation strategies. 

People Management and Stakeholder Communication 10% 

  • Facilitate communication between team members (including students and trainees), collaborators, and funding agencies. 
  • Foster a collaborative and positive work environment within the lab. 

Financial and Regulatory Management 15% 

  • Monitor project budgets, track expenses 
  • Assist in preparing budgets for grant applications. 
  • Prepare project documentation and reports (e.g., grant funds, IRB submissions for human subjects studies, data management plans, statistical analysis plans) 
  • Maintain project inventory for the lab 

Required Qualifications at this Level 

Education/Training

Requires Bachelor degree in related field.

Experience 

Minimum of four years of related experience. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and/OR 3+ years of experience in lab management or a related field
  • At least 2 years of experience managing complex projects, preferably in an academic or research setting. 
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills 
  • Attention to detail. 
  • Experience with budget management and financial reporting
  • Adaptable and comfortable in a fast-paced, ever-evolving research environment.
