Mission: Iconic Reefs (M:IR) is a bold 20-year initiative to restore seven coral reefs within Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary (FKNMS). The MIR Implementation Manager will coordinate, manage and track all aspects of Mission: Iconic Reefs implementation including collaborating with coral restoration practitioners and other external partners, overseeing project progress, and analyzing metrics to ensure project goals and objectives are being met. This position works as part of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary team in support of resource protection and restoration goals in the sanctuary.

  • Coordinates with coral restoration partners and practitioners on the execution of Mission Iconic Reefs.
  • Coordinates between restoration practitioners and the MIR field team; disseminate information about partner activities to facilitate timely completion of monitoring surveys, which often occurs with short notice
  • Serves as the Chair the Restoration Implementation Working Group.
  • Manages and tracks all aspects of mission implementation using a project management system. Collects and assimilates information from multiple external partners.
  • Tracks and analyzes project progress to ensure goals and objectives are being met. Using metrics developed with other Mission: Iconic Reefs core team members, measure impact of restoration efforts and ensure accountability.
  • Using ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and other software applications as appropriate, generate products such as timelines, dashboards, maps, etc. to help coordinate multiple partner-led activities
  • Identifies barriers to progress and suggest strategies to overcome those barriers.
  • Develops measures of restoration outcomes and work with Mission: Iconic Reefs team to interpret and communicate outcomes and benefits across different audiences
  • Supports the review of proposals related to Mission: Iconic Reefs implementation including schedules, budgets, restoration strategy and monitoring
  • Assists with developing proposals for funding to support Mission: Iconic Reefs implementation
  • Snorkels and/or SCUBA dives, as needed, to support restoration fieldwork with FKNMS staff and partners.
  • Performs essential duties in emergencies such as hurricanes, public health emergencies, and/or any other university emergency closing. The employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification of a department administrator.

Bachelor's degree and 2 years of relevant experience; OR six (6) years of relevant training and/or military experience OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.

  • Education in marine science or ecosystem restoration discipline.
  • Technical understanding of coral reef restoration and habitat conservation including coral reef ecology and monitoring; experience with the design and implementation of coral reef or ecosystem restoration projects.
  • Proficiency using both ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online to manage project data, track results, and provide situational awareness on project status. 
  • Scientific Diver certification under AAUS standards or Rescue Diver SCUBA certification from a nationally recognized agency or military and seventy-five (75) logged open water dives.
  • Experience collating scientific materials from a variety of sources and developing best  practices guides or consensus recommendations.
  • Experience in project management including the planning and coordination of complex multi-partner projects.
