Position Overview

ATLAS promotes learning and improved outcomes for all students. We create technology-based learning and assessment systems that are accessible and academically rigorous. Our center serves all students, including students with disabilities and struggling learners, as well as their educators.
We specialize in map-based learning systems that are informed by research on skill development, assessment design, and teacher professional development. Our grant-funded research includes writing instruction, science professional development, support for teacher trainers, and science assessment design. We also foster partnerships with diverse organizations that share our focus and commitment to quality learning experiences for all students.  

Our center develops and delivers state assessments. The Dynamic Learning Maps® (DLM®) Alternate Assessment System assesses students with the most significant cognitive disabilities in English language arts, mathematics, and science. We also offer custom social studies alternate assessments. Our broader state assessments include the Kansas Assessment Program, the Career Pathways Assessment System, and the Kansas English Language Proficiency Assessment.   

ATLAS is seeking a Research Project Coordinator to manage a variety of development projects. The coordinators will work with multiple development teams to ensure that complex processes are implemented and documented consistently and will ensure that quality assurance criteria and delivery deadlines are met. This is a full-time (40 hours/week), unclassified position at the Lawrence campus.
We especially seek candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Large scale assessment development
  • Project management
  • Process Improvement
  • Quality control processes
  • SharePoint administration
  • Document security and managing secure materials
  • Planning and coordinating meetings across teams

Job Description

45% - Manage and monitor workflow and deliverables for multiple ATLAS projects. Examples of work performed may include:

  • Coordinating the development of assessments and ancillary instructional resources.
  • Documenting development procedures including identifying milestones and creating workflow maps.
  • Identifying process improvements and applying risk management strategies.
  • Reviewing project deliverables, other than test content, for accuracy and alignment to project goals.
  • Coordinating development and revision of project plans within and across teams.
  • Tracking and reporting project milestones and deliverables.
  • Implementing budgets and administrative procedures for development projects.
30% - Coordinate internal resources to support development projects. Examples of work performed may include:
  • Coordinating the establishment of a work plan.
  • Developing and review technical documents, issue briefs, and communications.
  • Scheduling and leading cross-team meetings for projects.
  • ​Coordinating handoffs between project staff and project teams.
15% - Coordinate and occasionally assist in the preparation and dissemination of project documents. Examples of work performed may include:
  • Preparing documentation about development processes for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Producing and or reviewing written text, instructional resources, and/or technical reports for a variety of media.
  • Developing engaging recruitment and training materials for multiple projects.
  • Contributing to the development of instructional resources.
  • Contributing to grant proposals and RFP responses.
  • Performing quality control checks on completed work and finished products like the above examples.
10% - Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements

Due to COVID restrictions, this position will begin teleworking and may transition to on-site work when deemed safe and necessary.


Required Qualifications

  • ​Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience in field of study OR high school diploma and 4 years of related experience
  • One year of work experience in project management
  • At least one year of experience using a variety of project management tools as evidenced by work history or professional training
  • At least one year of experience using Microsoft Office suite applications 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills as evidenced by application materials and interview

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or project management certification
  • Work history that includes experience in SharePoint administration
  • Experience producing professional development resources for educators
  • Work experience in large scale assessment development
  • Experience managing multiple, concurrent and/or complex projects
  • Work history that includes demonstrated supervisory experience
  • Experience planning and coordinating special events
