The Alzheimer’s Center at Temple is seeking a Research Associate. The Research Associate will investigate lipid metabolism in Alzheimer’s disease and age-related macular degeneration. Under general supervision, the Research Associate will provide professional level research support requiring application of standard research practices and techniques. 

The individual will receive extensive training in the requisite procedures and experimental protocols. This position is suitable for an individual seeking to enter a career in laboratory research work.

Responsibilities include: maintenance of induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells (iPS cells require medium change every 1-2 days, necessitating a medium change once over the weekend) and an animal colony; manipulate the genome of cell lines and conduct experiments, including vector construction, iPS and immortalized cell genome editing using CRISPR/Cas9, transgene insertion into the genome of iPS and immortalized cells, directional differentiation of iPS cells to the desired cell types, characterization of the cell proteome and secretome using ELISA, western immunoblotting and immunohistochemistry and characterization of the cell transcriptome using quantitative PCR. The individual will maintain detailed outlines of employed procedures and experimental protocols, make detailed records of conducted experiments, organize and maintain records of data, prepare figures for presentation and present results at lab meetings. 
Performs assigned research duties, including analyzing data, interpreting information, and creating reports. Executes experimental protocols, maintains records on all experiments and maintains equipment. Makes corrective modifications in methodology; assists with the completion of research projects. Works with tissue samples and animals; records results of research tests and experiments and prepares detailed charts and reports of procedures; operates and maintains sophisticated laboratory equipment. May maintain, assemble, adjust and make minor repairs to complex laboratory equipment; collects and organizes data using statistical software packages. Analyzes research results and prepares results for presentation at meetings and conferences, research reports, manuscripts and papers; orders supplies, examines instrument malfunctions, and assists in instrument repair. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience: Bachelor's Degree and six months of research-related experience. Experience as an undergraduate researcher can be applied toward the research experience requirement. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. The applicant should be able to demonstrate curiosity, concentration and intelligence.

Required Skills and Abilities:
*Demonstrated ability to independently conduct various experimental techniques with training
*Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate research records
*Working knowledge of Word and Excel or equivalent software
*Willingness to manage an animal colony
*Ability to work independently and as part of the laboratory team
*Knowledge of basic statistical analysis and data presentation
