The Research Program Manager will possess a high degree of knowledge in public health, with recognized expertise in specific areas. The incumbent will oversee and manage departmental research projects and other initiatives that may include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources. They will problem-solve efforts that frequently requires the analysis of unique issues/problems without precedent and/or structure. The incumbent will function with a high degree of autonomy.

The incumbent will design, implement, evaluate, and manage transportation research studies. Manage project development, planning, and implementation of data collection and analytic methodologies (quantitative and qualitative), and monitoring and summarizing research findings. Design and refine survey tools and systems, as well as other study techniques and processes. Develop and maintain databases of relevant survey instruments; review and recommend resources needed to meet research goals; and coordinate and manage data collection and analysis. The incumbent will utilize continuous improvement methodologies to evaluate and ensure that plans and processes are informed by research findings, including those from surveys, interviews, and focus groups. The incumbent will design and oversee monitoring efforts to ensure that research projects are on track and within budget. They will serve as a major contributor to scientific writing, grant writing, and presentations at scientific conferences. They will provide training and work direction to lower-level staff and students, as needed.

  • Advanced degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Three (3) or more years of relevant experience.

  • High level of political acumen, diplomacy, professionalism, and integrity to act appropriately and with sensitivity in a culturally diverse environment.

  • Superior oral, written, presentation, and personal communication skills. Ability to clearly and concisely present ideas, concepts, and detailed technical information in a multidisciplinary setting, and to funding organizations and representatives as well as to those possessing minimal technical backgrounds.

  • Demonstrated experience working with faculty in developing research plans and in writing and securing contracts, grants and/or other support from public and private funding sources for the social sciences.

  • Experience facilitating communications with PhD-level faculty and researchers across a broad range of disciplines and cultures. Ability to identify and promote research excellence of academics and programs.

  • Demonstrated experience administering programs, including budgeting, fiscal management, marketing, promotion, program revision, expansion and evaluation.

  • Academic background and experience in selected area of research preferred.

  • Thorough knowledge of administrative, budgetary, human resources and financial principles and practices.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups to achieve results.

  • Strong ability to work collaboratively with internal and external peers and managers.

  • Terminal degree in a related field preferred (PhD, JD, MD, etc).

  • Solid fundraising experience.

  • Five (5) + years of Program management experience preferred.

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check.

  • Must be able and willing to travel (domestic) and work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends when required.


Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $82,500 - $151,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $39.51 - $72.56

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
