Description

The University of Chicago's Department of Pediatrics in the Biological Sciences seeks full-time Research Professors of any rank, whose primary activity will be academic research in association with a faculty member or team. The appointees will contribute to research projects focused on conducting statistical analysis of Omics data.

The appointees will play pivotal roles in biostatistical research, involved in all aspects of statistical considerations from early phase engagement, data management, data analysis, to the final stages of knowledge dissemination from a variety of research projects (clinical and pre-clinical) within the Department of Pediatrics and Data for the Common Good (D4CG). D4CG is a data science research group within the department dedicated to working with global collaborators to connect and share useful, high-quality data among institutions, groups, and countries to increase opportunities for discovery. We and our partners aim to integrate state-of-art data science with various types of statistical methods to translate large medical data from benchwork to knowledge in precision medicine.

The appointees will actively engage in biostatistical methodology development and/or applied collaborative research in biostatistics and quantitative health. We especially welcome applicants with expertise in analysis of large clinical datasets, biomarker identification, Bayesian modeling, cancer datasets, and Omics data (e.g., microbiomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and transcriptomics). Evaluation of applications will consider training in statistical modeling and programming as well as communication and scientific writing skills.

This position offers appointees with career opportunities in advancing biomedical data analytics and project management skills. Under the guidance of a Principal Investigator, appointees are expected to design and plan projects, oversee collaborations, source data, coordinate the lab, and carry out research activities of an assigned project through completion. The appointees will provide recommendations on research design and action plan, present data and findings at labs and scientific meetings, seminars, etc., prepare manuscripts, and contribute preliminary data for grant proposals.

Applicants must 1) have a doctoral degree or equivalent in the biostatistics, statistics, applied mathematics, bioinformatics, computer science or related field and 2) completed postdoctoral training prior to the start of employment.
