The University of Chicago Medicine’s Center for Asian Health Equity is the only research center in the Midwest to address the diverse health care needs of Asian Americans and other immigrant populations. The Center builds teams that span disciplines and sectors across the University and diverse Asian American and other immigrant communities to address health disparities, translate evidence into practical interventions, conduct public education, and use data to inform health policy. The center’s research focuses on health disparities, health services, and community engaged research with increasing interest in implementation and dissemination science. The Center fulfills a critical need to improve the health of underserved populations to advance health equity.


Job Summary
 

The Center for Asian Health Equity (CAHE) is seeking a highly motivated Research Professional to advance our research portfolio focused on health disparities and mental health programs. The research professional will be responsible for all aspects of research projects from design to implementation to evaluation, and contribute to the overall scientific direction of the research portfolio for mental health and health disparities. This will require in-depth knowledge and experience, ability to use evidence based interventions across diverse environments, solve complex problems, work independently with minimal guidance. The research professional will also need to direct existing behavioral health programs and mentor junior staff. The research professional will need to work collaboratively with diverse teams to design, develop, and implement scientific research and develop research to address fundamental questions in the field of health disparities and mental health. This role requires skills and expertise to develop implement and supervise program and research in clinical and community-based settings with diverse populations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop program and research project plans and timelines and manage to accomplish goals and objectives within the prescribed time frame and budget.

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of programs in delivering their goals and objectives.

  • Conduct research, literature review, needs assessment, IRB preparations, and data analysis to support program planning and development.

  • Participate in established and future research projects and assist with developing or amending study protocols, developing data collection tools, and building databases.

  • Manage the production of articles, reports, and manuscripts, and publications.

  • Presents research findings at meetings and/or conferences.

  • Prepare grant proposals and manage the administration of grants awarded to the center.

  • Ensure necessary reports/documentation are submitted on time and in appropriate formats to all granters / stakeholders.

  • Lead coalition building and sustaining efforts with community-based organizations to implement evidence-based behavioral health and substance use intervention programs.

  • Serves as a resource for collecting data and performing analysis. Facilitates and promotes a research project by providing scientific or intellectual information.

  • Creates first drafts for scientific writing and publications, including protocols and grants.

  • Performs other related work as needed.

Education:

Minimum requirements include a PhD in related field.

  • Strategic thinking skills including effecting planning, setting goals, monitoring progress, tracking results and making appropriate adjustments to plans based on circumstances.

  • Effective organizational and time management skills with a high degree of attention to details.

  • Ability to lead, inspire and influence others to achieve a common goal.

  • Excellent written communications skills for grant proposals, reports, and manuscripts.

  • Excellent interpersonal communications skills to facilitate multicultural, multi-generational community meetings, committee meetings, and programming, as well as one-on-one conversations with community leaders, funders, and decision-makers.

  • Fundamental working knowledge of research techniques or methods.

  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving ability.

  • Sensitivity to cultural and ethnic difference and ability to adapt mental health interventions to the Asian American communities.

  • Familiar with and prior experience using Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and REDCap.

  • Familiar with and prior experience in statistical programming (R, Python, SPSS, SAS or Stata).
