About the Department
 

The Jabri Lab is housed in one of the main research buildings on the University of Chicago campus and is part of the Department of Biological Sciences. The lab is composed of a diverse group of scientists and clinicians with a wide range of training experience and expertise. The lab is internationally recognized for its expertise in gastrointestinal tract immunology with particular focus on celiac disease and inflammatory bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s, and primary sclerosing cholangitis. We work closely with the clinical gastroenterologists and surgeons at the University of Chicago Medical Center to obtain patient samples and perform biochemical, cellular, and sequencing assays. We aim to understand the immunology underlying digestive diseases with a goal to improve therapies for patients.


Job Summary
 

The Section of Gastroenterology is seeking a Research Professional who thrives in a multidisciplinary environment, and is interested in the rising field of complex human immune disorders. The Research Professional will also help in the management of the laboratory. The candidate will spend his/her time performing experiments on human samples and doing lab management.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct human immunology experiments, analyze data, and help manage biobanking and clinical data entry in collaboration with the Clinical Coordinator.
  • Human experiments will include tissue cell isolation, multiparameter flow cytometry, and cell sorting.  
  • Conduct molecular biology and genomic experiments (library preparation, single-cell RNA sequencing, ChIP-sequencing, etc.).
  • Guide data collection and analysis as well as contribute to patient database management in collaboration with Clinical Coordinators.
  • Write reports and protocols, and participate in drafting articles and manuscripts.
  • Perform lab management duties that include helping with ordering, ensuing the functioning of the equipment and laboratory.
  • Participate in translational studies.
  • Will perform cellular, flow cytometry and molecular biology experiments on human samples.
  • Will participate in the analysis of data. 
  • Serves as a resource for collecting data and performing analysis. Contributes to facilitating and promoting a research project by providing scientific or intellectual information.
  • Leads the contributions to scientific writing and publications, including protocols and grants.
  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a PhD in related field.

  • Doctoral degree relevant to the research being conducted.
