Department

BSD PAT - Schreiber Lab

About the Department

The laboratory focuses on the separate as well as combined therapeutic effects of CD4 and CD8 T cells recognizing mutation-encoded cancer-specific antigens on murine or human cancers. The Schreiber laboratory has contributed to a number of important discoveries in the field of cancer immunotherapy, including the identification of the genetic nature of unique tumor-specific antigens and that non-synonymous single nucleotide substitutions causing single amino acid replacements are the basis of the unique individually specific immunogenicity of cancers. The Schreiber lab uses mouse models to study T cell-mediated immunotherapy of progressively growing tumors and how tumor-stroma modifies the therapeutic outcome. The lab uses a combination of sophisticated in vivo and in vitro methodologies (including imaging) ranging from the molecular, cell culture, tissue to the whole-body level.

Job Summary

The job facilitates and promotes a research project or contributes to the scientific direction of a research resource. Receives a moderate level of guidance and direction. Research Professional will study/develop adoptive T cell therapies in mouse models and humans using syngeneic/autologous mutation specific TCRs engineered to be expressed in peripheral blood T cells. The incumbent will work in close collaboration with our team of leading scientists at the University of Chicago and abroad.

Responsibilities

  • Directs a comprehensive program leading to the development of autologous T cell-receptor (TCR) therapy targeting cancer-specific mutations in mice as well as in patients.

  • Not only conducts experiments and assays but also trains and guides members of the laboratory. Collaborates with a bioinformatics group to identify the trunk mutations that are well expressed.

  • Selects appropriate tumor-specific targets for therapy.

  • Renewal and updating of existent and/or completion of new animal research, biosafety and radiation as well as clinical research protocols.

  • Making, ordering, training and receiving of culture media and reagents.

  • Preparation of sterile supplies including glassware. Training and supervision of others to take over these tasks.

  • Writes up (detailed design) and executes experiments discussed with the principle investigator (PI). Training and supervision of others to take over these tasks.

  • Maintaining a liquid nitrogen cell bank. Training and supervision of others to take over these tasks.
