Position Summary

Oversees the basic science research operations in the Department of Surgery for Principal Investigators (currently at 10). Assists with personnel hiring and oversight. Develops grant applications. Oversees fiscal matters related to research. Assists with compliance issues. Ensures physical resources are present and maintained to facilitate research.

Prior personnel management experience.
Ability to interact with individuals with varying degrees of skill and personality.

Solid knowledge of techniques and tools of the various research processes
High energy and motivation to assume a variety of tasks and responsibilities
Knowledge of federal research grant rules and processes; knowledge of other research funding opportunities and processes.
Ability to develop project budgets
Ability to write, edit and follow appropriate format for grant proposals; ability to assemble and compile grant narratives and materials from various key personnel associated with a grant proposal
Ability to establish work priorities, work under deadlines and provide follow through, to insure completion of activities in accordance with deadlines.

Preferred Education: Master's degree

Experience in an academic research setting or health sciences center.
