Minimum Qualifications

Pay Grade: EG (minimum $48,421.00, midpoint $66,269.00, maximum $85,798.00)

  • Minimum 4 years' experience working in the field of social work at an agency serving children, youth or families in a mental health, child welfare, school or related setting.

  • Professional theory and practice of social work in general and child welfare and family support practice.

  • Experience working in the field of social work at an agency serving children, youth or families in a mental health, child welfare, school or related setting.
  • Experience working on a research project.
  • Teamwork demonstrated by acceptance of team goals and works cooperatively with other colleagues in a professional manner, listens well and responds appropriately, and does everything with a customer service attitude by contributing to a positive work environment, accepting responsibility and communicating effectively both orally and in writing.

  • Self-starter who has expertise in the work to be done so that the person can make decisions independently and sometimes in collaboration with the Principal Investigator (PI), other team members and external partners.
  • Master's degree in social work, Education, Psychology or another related field.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SPSS, Qualtrics.
  • Proficient in oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel with overnight stays.
Position Description

The position involves conceptualizing and executing training and intervention evaluation research in terms of conducting and supervising literature searches, critiquing existing literature, developing curricula or other training materials and protocols for workers or members of the evaluation team depending on the project focus, designing evaluation instruments such as surveys, questionnaires, interviews, focus group questions, and tests, conceptualizing the data collection process, determining appropriate sampling techniques, and collecting data in a timely and efficient manner.

This position also includes analyzing data, interpreting results, writing papers for publication in professional journals, reports for funders and other stakeholders, presentations at professional conferences, webinars and trainings, as well as other products for dissemination of findings of the evaluation research efforts (such as white papers, research briefs, notes for newsletters, the website and the like). The candidate in this position must be able to write and execute an analysis plan for the storage, analysis and interpretation of data, prepare data summaries and interim reports, write reports for research projects and negotiate their review and dissemination with clients. The position requires experience in child welfare and other types of social work settings working with children, youth, families and the workforce that interfaces with those clients. Must be able to supervise students and collaborate closely with other team members both internal and external to the Kent School.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conceptualizes research projects; conducts and supervises literature reviews, assists in the development of research proposals and assists in the design of instruments such as surveys, questionnaires, interviews, focus group questions and tests.
  • Develops and directs project schedules, training and research tasks to ensure timely completion of all project activities.
  • Establishes policies and procedures for data collection and completion of project products (e.g. access to data, prepublication review of reports, distribution of reports and other projects, etc.). Direct data collection phase for research projects.
  • Organizes workshops and training programs for project staff or participants to provide instruction in the use of research instruments and materials. Some projects require development of and direct training with staff as well.
  •  Writes and executes analysis plans for project data that include multiple sources of data collected at multiple points in time; analyze data using univariate (frequences, means, medians, modes) and bivariate (correlations, t-tests, chi squares, ANOVAs) and qualitative data. Sometimes utilizes multivariate analyses such as MANOVAs and Regressions.
  • Prepare data summaries and interim reports. Prepare written reports for research projects and negotiate their review and dissemination with the PI and other collaborators. Write technical reports and research papers for presentations, publications and the website.
  • Supervise other project team members both internal and external to Kent on research project schedules and coordinate data collection and production activities with other research activities for report completion. This may include coordinating and facilitating meetings in the community and with national stakeholders, depending on the nature of the grant project.
  • The position communicates internally with the Kent School team on the grant projects including the PI and other Research Managers as well as students. The position communicates externally with funders, collaborators on the grant project from other Universities, community partners, training participants, and study participants, this communication is regular and involves considerable tact, discretion and persuasion in gaining the cooperation of others. Requires handling of delicate relationships, complex situations and confidential information.
  • Contact with customers involves providing service in person to resolve serious complaints, maintain key relationships, make significant adjustments, handle high profile meetings or deal with very sensitive relations by problem-solving.
