INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY

Supports individuals and groups campus wide within the University of Houston System in research and research proposal development for funding complex, multidisciplinary proposals. Strategically collaborates with other research entities and private businesses outside of the University System to coordinate, develop, fund, and implement these projects into cohesive programmatic thrusts that can be leveraged into academic, industry, government and community partnerships.

  • Oversees all Office of Research Development activities in the Division of Research and advises the Associate Vice President for Research-on-Research development strategy.
  • Supervises a staff of research development personnel. Evaluates team performance and staffing needs, restructuring as needed to meet research objectives.
  • Maintains relationships with program officers to identify upcoming opportunities and strategically position the University for success in obtaining sponsored programs funding.
  • Engages faculty and Associate Deans for Research to ensure research needs are being met.
  • Interacts with university contacts in Washington, D.C., to identify government research initiatives.
  • Develops and maintains strategic partnerships within and outside of UH.
  • Leads selected University driven initiatives to increase success and visibility of the institution.
  • Identifies and initiates strategic high dollar and high visibility funding opportunities that fit UH capabilities, research assets; leads initiatives for multidisciplinary Program Project grants.
  • Identifies and leads in the preparation of multi-institutional center proposals.
  • Partners with the Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations to position the University for optimizing success with donors. Represents the Division of Research by liaising with other divisions, colleges, departments, offices, and funding agencies. Develops initiatives and special projects with the AVC/AVP for Research. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

     

    Doctoral and 7 years experience

    Requires singular knowledge of a specialized advanced professional discipline or the highest level of general business knowledge, normally acquired through attainment of a directly job-related terminal degree or equivalent formal training in a recognized field of specialization that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of seven (7) years of directly job-related experience.
