Job Title: Research Law Librarian Job Classification: CFS Professional Posting close date: 2/15/2024 Start date of this position: 6/1/2024 Required Degree: JD from an ABA-accredited law school; required degree must be completed by the start date. Preferred Additional Degree: MLS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited institution.
The Howard W. Hunter Law Library at Brigham Young University is seeking applicants for a law library faculty position (continuing faculty status professional track) to begin by Fall Semester 2024. Experience: A successful applicant must have a JD degree (with an MLS or equivalent preferred), a strong academic background, and significant experience conducting in-depth legal research. Candidates must also have an aptitude for working with and learning new technology, excellent problem-solving skills, creativity, strong interpersonal skills, a deep commitment to providing excellent service, and a proven ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a team. While not required, the BYU Law Library is seeking candidates who have experience and/or interest in developing expertise in foreign, comparative, and international law (including reading knowledge and comprehension of at least one foreign language). Other preferred areas of expertise or interest include tax law; quantitative research; and/or data science. Duties/Expectations: While the exact contours of the position will depend on the expertise, experience, and aptitude of the successful candidate, areas of responsibility will include the following: (1) faculty research support; (2) legal research instruction; (3) reference assistance for faculty, students, and members of the public; (4) library collection development for both print and electronic resources; and (5) personal research and scholarship that are an outgrowth of the librarian¿s responsibilities. The Law Library is especially interested in a candidate to assume responsibility for foreign, comparative, and international law research and collection development. BYU Law Library faculty members typically work onsite to better fulfill our strategic objectives.
