Summary

The Dr. Sonya Wolf-Fortune Laboratory in the Department of Pharmacology and Caswell Diabetes Institute (CDI) at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor is seeking a full-time (40 hours per week) Research Laboratory Technician. As the selected candidate you will work under the direct supervision of and receive training directly from Dr. Wolf-Fortune on projects investigating the molecular mechanisms linking chronic skin inflammatory conditions and metabolic dysfunction developmentusing a combination of in vitro and in vivo techniques.

The laboratory will open in July 2024; a 2-year commitment from the selected candidate to help establish the lab is preferred.

Responsibilities*

Typical duties performed are:

  • Assist with laboratory management and maintenance including ordering, restocking reagents for the laboratory, completing lab documentation for safety inspections
  • Maintenance and genotyping of mouse colonies
  • Perform experiments in cultured structural and immune cells to interrogate regulation of intracellular signaling pathways. 
  • Molecular and histological analysis of mouse tissues, including genomic DNA PCR, RNA isolation, gene expression analysis by qPCR, protein localization or quantification by immunofluorescence analysis, Western or ELISA assay, and ChIP
  • May assist in the training of new members of the team, including graduate and undergraduate students, on laboratory protocols and operations, and experimental procedures as well as provide assistance on experimentation

Required Qualifications*

Associate level:

  • Associate's degree in Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or a related field
  • Exposure to a research laboratory setting

Intermediate level:

  • Associate's degree in Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or a related field
  • A minimum of 1 year of wet lab research experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Senior level:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or a related field
  • A minimum of 1 year of wet lab research experience

All levels:

  • Willingness to work with laboratory mice 
  • Ability to document and communicate in a clear and timely manner 
  • Exceptional organizational skills and great attention to detail
  • Enthusiastic about research and highly motivated to learn new technical skills, conduct research, and work as a team with other laboratory staff

In order to be considered for this position the applicant must have met or will have met all the required qualifications prior to the start date of employment.


Desired Qualifications*
  • Hands-on experience in cell culture and working with mouse models
  • Specific work experience in molecular, histological, and cell biology techniques
