Research Laboratory Technician II-HCC (MD)

The Department of Preventive Medicine, Lynch Cancer Research Center (LCRC), has an opening for a Research Technician. The selected individual will join the LCRC faculty, staff, and students with research exploring the biochemistry of lipids and lipoproteins, molecular biomarkers, and genetic associations of cancers and other pro-inflammatory conditions. In addition, the LCRC is engaged in developing and characterizing novel high-impact therapeutic peptide agents for the prevention and treatment of epithelial adenocarcinoma of the ovary and colon as has been demonstrated both in cell culture in vitro and in murine models in vivo. The Research Technician hired will be a key participant in this exciting work.

 

The LCRC Laboratory mainly employs aseptic cell-culture techniques, works with mouse and other animal models, performs immunohistochemistry, lipid and lipoprotein measurement and functional analysis; performs immunoassays including protein/peptide assays, IFA, flow cytometry, ELISA; molecular biology techniques such as PCR, sequencing, western blotting, and cloning. Strong experience working with animal models, immunoassays, molecular biology, and immunohistochemistry is highly desirable. Under general supervision, provides a wide variety of moderately complex laboratory testing and technical lab support, including Quality Control, biobanking, and inventory management for a research facility. Requires knowledge of the processes/procedures in testing, documenting experiments, maintaining laboratory notebooks and equipment, analyzing data, and reporting using complex statistical computer software. Experience writing and submitting grant applications and scientific publications is preferred.

 

This position is 100% grant funded.

 

This position will work Monday to Friday-8am-4:30pm; depending upon research needs position may require evening, weekend,and holiday work. 

 

 

 

 

 


Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in related field of Science required;
2-4 year's research lab experience

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Understanding of research methods, laboratory techniques, and care of laboratory equipment;

Ability to interpret data, troubleshoot and resolve technical issues;
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Excel; PowerPoint and Outlook;

Detail oriented;

Analytical skills;

Strong work ethic, excellent written and communication skills, and the ability to work independently;

Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays depending upon research needs
