Summary

This posting is for a position starting as a Research Technician Senior in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Michigan.  

Our laboratory uses high-dimensional immune phenotyping (flow and mass cytometry) to understand and treat heart disease.   The successful candidate will become a member of a collaborative research lab involved in the identification and functional analysis of molecular factors contributing to inflammation and vascular disease. The position is focused on phenotyping in vivo models (not performing the in vivo models), tissue harvesting/processing, processing peripheral blood monocytes from clinical samples, flow/mass cytometry, and molecular biology (RNA/protein work).

Responsibilities*
  • Expert completion of with cell culture, RNA and protein extraction.  
  • Expert analysis with cell cytometry, immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy
  • Comfortable with online project management tools and communication platforms
  • Complete other experiments, as assigned
  • Attend scheduled laboratory meetings
  • Proof, draft, or prepare documents for investigators, sponsors, publications, or proposals
  • Maintain detailed and accurate record of experiments
  • Maintain a well-organized inventory of materials
  • Place order requests with Internal Medicine Purchasing team
  • Analyze data for publications, under the direction of the PI
  • Communicate effectively with project team and laboratory leadership
  • Communicate with Procurement as needed related to orders and to resolve issues
  • Communicate with the Division pre-award and post-award staff as needed
  • Other duties, as assigned

Required Qualifications*
  • A bachelor's degree in a health science discipline is required, with advanced degree/training preferred.
  • 1-2 years experience.
  • The flexibility to be able to conduct experiments over some weekends.
  • Experience with phenotyping animal models, immunology techniques, RNA/protein protocols, cell culture, and molecular biology techniques is required.
  • Previous experience in a bench science research laboratory is required
  • Understands and demonstrates the core concepts of Patient and Family Centered Care (PFCC), including Respect and Dignity, Information Sharing, Participation, and Team Collaboration
  • The ability to communicate effectively using online project management and communication platforms is required.

Desired Qualifications*
  • A background in immunology and/or vascular biology is preferred but not required.  
  • Experience with the phenotyping of animal models (cell isolation and organ processing) and immune (flow and/or mass cytometry) phenotyping is preferred but not required.

Background Screening
