Summary

Michael Triebwasser in the Department of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology seeks a highly motivated Research Laboratory Technician to assist with laboratory research.

Dr. Triebwasser works with Prof Joerg Lahann of the Biointerfaces Institute to develop novel non-viral gene delivery methods. The goal is to understand what drives effective gene delivery to specific cell types. As a pediatric hematologist, Dr. Triebwasser is focused on gene therapy for genetic blood disorders. This work involves characterizing the physical characteristics of nanocarriers and also their effectiveness in blood forming cells.


Responsibilities*
  • Experimental responsibilities

o   Nanoparticle characterization-size, charge, stability

o   Designing and performing PCR assays

o   DNA extraction and assessment of CRISPR editing

o   In vitro cell culture/transfection

o   Cloning

o   Flow cytometry

o   Fluorescent microscopy

o   Data analysis and preparation of data for presentation

  • Non-experimental responsibilities

o   Purchasing of lab supplies and equipment as authorized

o   Maintenance of lab equipment


Required Qualifications*

o   BS in molecular biology, genetics, chemistry, or related area of an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field

o   Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills

o   Good documentation skills

o   Excellent teamwork and communication skills

o   Experience with PCR assays, DNA extraction, PCR assays, and/or gene editing

o   Experience with research data analysis and experimental design

o   Knowledge and understanding of lab safety protocols including biological and chemical safety

o   At least one year full time experience


Desired Qualifications*

o   Ability and motivation to learn new experimental approaches and safety protocols, and analyze and present data

o   Experience with or willingness to next-generation sequencing

o   Experience with or willingness to learn mouse husbandry


Background Screening
