Summary

The Jensen Lab at UofM develops self-driving robotic labs that design, execute, and analyze high-throughput microbiology experiments. Our team seeks an automation engineer to maintain and operate our fleet of laboratory robots.

Responsibilities*
  • Plan and execute high-throughput phenotypic assays using multiple liquid handling robots, plate handlers, and plate readers.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and operate laboratory robots.
  • Track reagents, experiments, and data files to ensure efficiency and reproducibility.
  • Work with laboratory personnel to operate an AI-driven experiment planner and scheduler.
  • Develop and apply QA/QC techniques to both robots and assays.
  • Present results to teammates.

Required Qualifications*

Bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering, microbiology, or a related field. Experience with bacterial cell culture, statistical design of experiments (DOE), and quality engineering.


Desired Qualifications*

Master's degree and experience with high-throughput growth assays, liquid handling robots, and genetic manipulation of bacterial pathogens. Knowledge of artificial intelligence techniques is highly desirable. 


Work Schedule

The Michigan Engineering Office of Biomedical Engineering operates in a hybrid work environment consisting of both in-person and remote work. This position will be classified as a ON-SITE position within the Michigan Engineering STARR classification matrix which means working on campus 5 days per week. **Note:  This is a one year term-limited position with the possibility of extension based on need and funding.
