Summary

Assist with research activities for faculty investigators who are studying the role of microbial communities in host health. With guidance from senior faculty and research personnel, the research laboratory technician will handle laboratory tasks related to Clostridiodes difficile research. The technician will work collaboratively with other team members as well as independently to fulfill the goals of the project.

Responsibilities*
  • Process clinical samples in a high throughput fashion (coordinate with clinical laboratories, perform anaerobic culture for C. difficile, DNA isolation and prepare for long-term storage)
  • Performance of various high-throughput assays on samples (ELISA, Luminex, xCELLigence)
  • High throughput PCR using a variety of in-house assays and robotics instruments
  • Preparation of media and stock solutions
  • Update and maintain project records and databases utilizing software such as Lab Archives, Redcap, and Freezerworks
  • Attendance at team meetings
  • Provide support with maintaining and monitoring mouse colonies
  • Assist in BSL2 mouse experiments, including working with various BSL2 organisms.  Assist in mouse tissue collection.
  • Perform mammalian cell culture maintenance

  • Required Qualifications*

    Bachelor's degree in microbiology, biology, biochemistry, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and 1-3 years of experience is required. Demonstrated multi-tasking skills and ability to organize workload are essential. Strong interpersonal and both written and oral communication skills are critical. Past experience with molecular biology, microbiology, and rodent animal handling are required.


    Desired Qualifications*

    Experience with computerized records and databases desirable. Candidate should possess a willingness to learn and develop additional skills.  Previous experience with mammalian tissue culture and anaerobic microbiology is a plus.


    Background Screening
