Summary

We are seeking an experienced, independent-working individual to join our NIH-sponsored Animal Phenotyping Core within the Michigan Mouse Metabolic Phenotyping Center (MMPC-Live).

Responsibilities*

This candidate will be responsible for carrying out in-vivo and in-vitro physiology/pharmacology experiments in rodent models of metabolic disorders. He/she will be accountable for evaluating metabolic phenotypes in these models, specifically for assessment of whole-body glucose and lipid metabolism using 3H- and 14C- labeled tracers. This individual should have hands-on experience and expertise in in-vivo physiology/pharmacology and in the handling of rodents in particular, including some experience in performing microsurgery or intravascular infusion in conscious mice and/or rats.

The candidate will work closely with the Principal Investigator and senior lab members to develop, design and conduct research projects, analyze scientific results and prepare reports. Support for day-to-day housekeeping of the laboratory, experimental scheduling and maintenance records of study protocol/equipment/facility will also be required.


Required Qualifications*

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in physiology, pharmacology, molecular and cellular biology, or related discipline, Master's preferred.

A strong work ethic, excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work with minimal supervision in an organized fashion are essential. Ability to work in teams is critical. Some occasional weekend work will be required.

Research Lab Tech Associate: 

  •  Associate's Degree and 0-1 years' experience required.

Research Lab Tech Intermediate: 

  • Bachelor's  Degree and 1-3 years' experience required. 

Research Lab Tech Senior: 

  • Master's Degree in Cell Biology/Biochemistry/ Physiology and 1-2 years' experience required.

Desired Qualifications*
  • A two-year minimum commitment is strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience in a laboratory environment is desired but not required.

Associate and Intermediate Level:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Cell Biology/ Biochemistry/ Physiology or related field preferred.

Work Schedule

M-F, 8 hour/days, with some weekends as needed.
