Job Description

RESEARCH LABORATORY OPERATIONS MANAGER, Chemistry, to manage--under minimal supervision--all facets of the research group of Professor Mircea Dinca , including the design, discovery, and utilization of new materials for energy and environmental applications The work will involve both technical and administrative responsibilities, including writing and preparing grant proposals, scientific editing, organizing scientific information, project and financial management, and managing interactions with collaborators and funding agencies (i.e., preparing reports/presentations/project plans, coordinating meetings, transfer of deliverables, etc.). Responsibilities include ensuring the smooth functioning of the laboratory and overseeing day-to-day operations; maintaining lab supplies/inventory, instruments, and equipment; ensuring safety guidelines are met; managing vendor relations and service contracts; purchasing equipment; managing a budget, ordering and receiving purchases, and collaborating with the financial administrator on budget oversight and resolving financial issues; facilitating technology transfer between the group and collaborators; leading interactions with MIT internal organizations (e.g., Technology Licensing Office, Office of Sponsored Programs, HR, Office of the VP for Finance, Environmental Health and Safety, and Facilities); editing, submitting, and depositing manuscripts to NIHMS for open access; personnel management; organizing group activities/events; coordinating visits of researchers from industry and academia; providing guidance/training on general lab operations; and providing support and mentorship to UROPS/graduate students/postdocs.


Job Requirements

REQUIRED: Ph.D. in organic chemistry; five years' experience in an academic, research, or nonprofit environment; meticulous attention to detail; self-motivation; excellent project management, organizational, financial, administrative, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills; ability to work independently, promote collaboration, anticipate needs, multitask, and set and manage priorities; discretion and diplomacy; and proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and ChemDraw.
