Summary

The Department of Environmental Health Sciences in the School of Public Health at the University of Michigan has a position opening for a Research Laboratory Specialist Associate. This is a one-year term appointment, expected to continue based on funding availability. The Wang lab is seeking a full time Research Laboratory Specialist Associate to pursue research on the neurotoxicity of environmental toxicants with an emphasis on learning and memory deficits, and neurodegenerative disease. The Wang lab investigates the neurotoxicity and the potential mechanisms of environmental toxicants, such as Cadmium, Lead, and Air pollution. The position will obtain and maintain the mouse lines for experiments, cell culturing, provide maintenance of equipment and supplies necessary to carry out experiments, conduct some molecular and cellular experiments in the wet lab, and data analysis.  


Responsibilities*
  • Perform routine lab management duties, including ordering, inspections/compliance organization, and equipment maintenance.
  • Maintain the animal (mice) colony that will be used in experiments.
  • Conduct research experiments, primarily in vitro cell culture, immunostaining, tissue cryosection, animal behavioral tests, and data analysis.
  • Train graduate students, postdocs, undergraduates, and other personnel as necessary in lab equipment operation, experimental design and conduction.  

Desired Qualifications*

A bachelor's degree in a related field of science is required, and 1-3 years of experience working in research laboratories is required.  Masters' degree in Toxicology or biological sciences preferred.  

Experience with animal experiments (rodents) is strongly encouraged. 

Organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and in teams are all critical attributes.
