Salary Range

$20.20 - $25.25 per hour; DOE


Essential Duties

  • Performs standard procedures common to an x-ray beamline and associated accelerator facility commensurate with demonstrated capability after training.
  • Duties may advance to assisting in electron beam accelerator, laser systems, and x-ray interaction experiments.
  • Will learn on-the-job how to operate and collect data using oscilloscopes, frequency analyzers, digital acquisition systems, digital delay generators, vector analyzers, frequency sources, and so forth using software developed by CXFEL personnel. 
  • Compiles data and assists in routine preliminary analyses; maintains research data in laboratory notebook, writes summary reports and reports findings to lab investigator specifications. 
  • Assists in performing electron accelerator, laser  and x-ray experiments. 
  • Collects data and performs lab analysis and/or quantifies and tabulates results. 
  • Organizes supplies, materials or equipment and sets-up equipment for laboratory experiments or demonstrations; may perform minor equipment maintenance. 
  • Assists laboratory staff in packaging of waste material and assists in arranging for disposal in accordance with established procedures. 
  • Assists with basic mathematical and statistical analyses. 
  • Assists in operations required to maintain a clean and orderly laboratory environment, including maintenance of part supplies, organization of tool and supply locations, and general lab cleaning.
  • Inventories and requisitions supplies and materials.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years related laboratory or field research experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the methods, materials and techniques used in laboratory and research work. 
  • Knowledge of research and laboratory equipment appropriate to the area of the assignment. 
  • Evidence of effective communication skills, both verbal and written. 
  • Experience in recording research data.

Working Environment

  • Regular activities require ability to manage multiple tasks at one time, to be able to prioritize tasks; to interact in a team environment: and to communicate effectively to exchange accurate information.
  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting and laboratory subject to extended periods of being in a stationary position, operating computer and other office productivity machinery; required to move a moderate distance to perform work.
  • Frequently moves up to 25 pounds for various needs.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • May be required to wear personal protective equipment before entering laboratories such as lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, closed toe shoes and respirator.
