The Kerlan Jobe Institute Research Intern provides entry-level support according to documented procedures and schedules.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
•    Receives instruction & training in the process of designing and implementing research projects 
•    Gains exposure to a variety of processes, policies and procedures related to research design, implementation and manuscript preparation
•    Assists physicians and research staff with a variety of clinical and non-clinical duties related to the research and education goals of the department

Department-Specific Responsibilities

Receives orientation to the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and other Human Subjects Courses.

  • Receives instruction & training in the areas of basic, translational, and/or clinical research.
  • Provides support with research data collection and data entry, literature searches, basic patient screening tasks, and may assist with basic scholarly writing.
  • Assist as needed with community outreach programs of the department

  • High School Diploma/GED, (Required)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Life/Physical Sciences or related field.  Interest in pursuing advanced education in the medical sciences. (Preferred)
  • Communication - Ability to convey and/or receive written/verbal information to/from various audiences in different formats; strong communication skills.
  • Technical - Ability to use software applications and operate technological devices (e.g., computer, laptop, tablet, smartphone, etc.); Knowledge of PC based software applications (e.g. Microsoft Office) preferred. Basic keyboard and data entry skills.
  • Time Management - Ability to handle multiple demands and/or manage complex and competing priorities; Ability to work in a changing environment and handle multiple conflicting priorities.
  • Regulatory - Ability to use discretion and maintain privacy, confidentiality or anonymity; Maintains confidentiality of patient care and business matters.
  • Regulatory - Ability to interpret and apply knowledge of State, Federal and Agency standards to comply with regulations; Protects the safety of others and of the physical plant and equipment, following institutional policies, fire, safety, privacy, safety and infection control regulations.
