Position Summary
The Division of Healthcare Engineering (DHE) within the Radiation Oncology Department at the School of Medicine – UNG-Chapel Hill is currently recruiting a Research Assistant Professor to coordinate and lead several practical and research initiatives broadly related to human factors engineering and operational excellence, and the conduct of research related to these initiatives (e.g., research on Human Factors Engineering, Patient Safety, Quality Improvement, Implementation Science).
In this position, the candidate will be responsible for understanding the vision of DHE practical/research domains and using this knowledge to communicate practical/research findings to engineering and solution owners.
Practical (hospital-based projects) requirements: Responsible for collaborating with other members of the DHE team to solve complex system design and implementation challenges and understand the end-user requirements at each stage of the project.
Collect, interpret and analyze the data to validate the success of the implementation efforts. Present and communicate findings to project teams and stakeholders.
Experience with Lean, Six-Sigma, and Change Management practices will be essential to align with UNC Health culture.
The successful candidate is expected to maintain a highly productive and impactful research program, teach graduate and undergraduate courses pertaining to human factors (e.g., usability, task analysis, cognitive engineering), and direct and advice undergraduate and graduate students.
The position is open to a variety of research specializations within Human Factors Engineering. We are especially interested in researchers working on applications in areas such as, but not limited to: augmented or virtual reality; health care and medical systems; usability and user experience; and human-machine teaming. We are open to compelling cases of other research areas, as long as they can complement the applied nature of our program and current faculty. We are also particularly interested in faculty members who can contribute substantively to an environment that fosters diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
PhD in Human Factors Engineering, Cognitive/Organizational Psychology, or Industrial Engineering.
* Publication record.
* Experience with grant writing.
* A portfolio highlighting research interests and plans.
* Detail-oriented with excellent analytical skills and problem-solving skills
* Team player with excellent communication skills both verbal and written
* Self-motivated. Agile, flexible, and adaptable to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and matrixed team environment.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* 3+ years of industry/research experience in human factors research or related field.
