Gallogly College of Engineering is seeking a professional graphic designer. The college is rapidly expanding its research portfolio and seeks a candidate who can contribute to research initiatives by creating compelling, storyfocused, and engaging content and narratives through graphics and multimedia to increase awareness and collaboration. The Research Illustrator will partner with faculty and students to assist with designing and developing graphics and illustrations in support of proposals, contracts, reports, and project efforts. Additionally, the Research Illustrator will work with faculty members to promote research accomplishments and successes and to assist with graphic illustrations of large proposals with a goal of increasing opportunities for collaboration.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide graphics design support for new research developments, initiatives, and proposals geared towards a broad range of GCoE and external stakeholders
  • Work with schools, faculty, and students to identify research accomplishments to showcase and develop graphics and multimedia content
  • Provide graphics design support for large proposals and contracts
  • Work with teams of faculty to determine best information and design engaging content and narratives through graphics to present in proposals and contracts
  • Formulate graphic concepts and templates that can be distributed and deployed by others use within the department Assist with graphics for the GCoE annual report
  • Assist in development of overall strategy to promote college and seven schools' research
  • Work with faculty to determine the best strategy for promoting specific research developments using graphics and multimedia content
  • Design, draft, edit, and format varied forms of graphics and multimedia content to promote research to various audiences
  • Formulate design concepts, presentations, templates, layouts, merchandise, signage, and other collateral from initial idea to final execution while meeting self-imposed and external deadlines
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor to successfully fulfill the function of the position
 

Job Requirements

Required Education: Bachelor's degree, AND

  • 24 months web/graphic design experience.

Equivalency/Substitution:  Will accept 48 months of related experience in lieu of the Bachelor's degree for a total of 72 months of related experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Self-starter who can work both independently as well as in a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Knowledge of graphic design principles
  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information
  • Excellent written, visual, and oral communication skills
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with design software (Adobe Creative Suite preferred), along with ability to operate computer equipment and software including word-processing, spreadsheet and internal database for record keeping and communication purposes
  • Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, multitask and pay attention to detail
  • Ability to adhere to standards and requirements
  • Demonstrate experience with a portfolio of work
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

Working Conditions:

  • Physical: Must be able to communicate effectively. Sit for prolonged periods. Frequent keyboarding. Ability to engage in repetitive motions.
  • Environmental: Standard Office Environment. Frequent exposure to pressure caused by deadlines and busy periods.
