Research Finance Program Director, Department of Pediatrics

The Department of Pediatrics in the University of Virginia’s (UVA) School of Medicine is seeking candidates for a Research Finance Program Director. 

The Research Finance Program Director plays a pivotal role in overseeing and managing the financial aspects of research programs within the organization. This position requires a strategic thinker with a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and a deep understanding of financial principles in the context of research funding and grant management. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with researchers, administrators, and funding agencies to ensure the efficient and effective use of financial resources to support cutting-edge research initiatives. This role with report directly to the Chief Operating Officer of the Department of Pediatrics.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Oversite of lab renovations from a financial perspective, and ensure renovations fit within funding model.

  • Oversite of the allocation of resources for new hires and securing institutional approval for these positions.

  • Provide updates on commitments, bridging, and funding submissions to the Chair, COO, Vice Chair for Research, and Senior Research Scientific Program Officer.

  • Manage the entire research finance operation, including projecting out funding and research commitments into the future.

  • Supervise research team to ensure high quality of research management, with an emphasis on customer service and technical competence.

  • Partner with research leaders and Division Directors to understand needs and adapt research services.

  • Contribute to social media presence for Departmental research mission.

  • Report on space allocations.

  • Create annual budget, and manage monthly reporting of performance to plan.

  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Master's degree or a Bachelor's degree with 10 years of experience.

  • Experience: At least seven years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified research administrator certification.
