Summary

Applications are invited for several new postdoctoral research positions in the area of Human-Robot Interaction. You will work with Professor Lionel P. Robert Jr. and a larger team of researchers in studying the collaboration between humans and robots. You will be expected to collaborate with all team members and contribute to the intellectual life of others. You will also supervise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students in the lab. You'll contribute to our research group by embracing excellence and diversity. Applications from all underrepresented groups are welcome. Motivated postdoctoral fellows who have both an interest and knowledge of the human-robot interaction literature are encouraged to apply.

  • Research areas focus on Human-Robot Collaborations, subareas include:
  • Robots and the changing nature of work
  • Human Autonomous Vehicle(s) Interactions
  • Bi-directional Trust in Human-Robot Interactions
  • Situational Awareness in Human-Robot Collaborations
  • Conflict and Conflict Resolution in Human-Robot Collaborations
  • Communicating Intention between Humans and Robots

The contract is for one year from August 15, 2024, to August 14, 2025, but renewable for an additional year (from August 15, 2025, to August 14, 2026) according to the research budget, research activity, performance, and research achievements.

Required Qualifications*
  • PhD in information, information systems, engineering, computer science, cognitive science, communications, robotics, social psychology, neuroscience, or other relevant fields
  • Proficiency in English demonstrated by prior publications
  • A track record that demonstrates the ability to work well with interdisciplinary research teams
  • Experience managing or working on different projects interchangeably

Work Locations

School of Information and/or Robotics Institute, The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI. Hybrid work is acceptable for this role, following the UMSI Remote Work Policy and with supervisor approval.

Employment outside of the United States or from a U.S. Territory is not allowable. Applicants must be eligible to be employed in the United States; sponsorship to obtain such status is not available at this time.

This position may work with and/or support systems that maintain or process sensitive institutional data as defined by university policy.
