Position Description:

A research fellow or senior research fellow position is available in the Cell Biology and Biophysics Unit at the National Institutes of Health headed by Dr. Antonina Roll-Mecak. The position is focused on quantitative image analysis. The successful candidate will be a key member of the lab and will be involved in multiple lab projects focused on single-molecule biophysics and high-resolution imaging. The selected candidate will work together with biochemists, biophysicists, and neurobiologists, contributing specialized microscopy and data analysis expertise and training. This collaborative work will result in publications in peer-reviewed journals.
The Cell Biology and Biophysics Unit headed by Dr. Roll-Mecak is focused on understanding intracellular organization with a focus on the tubulin code. The lab has made fundamental contributions towards our understanding of the microtubule cytoskeleton. Qualifications:

Who will be a good fit?

Professional experience:

  • You have an excellent understanding of light microscopy methods, image analysis, and statistics
  • You have experience in the development and usage of optical microscopy instrumentation
  • You have experience with image data analysis
  • You have experience with super-resolution microscopy and/or optical trapping

Desirable but not required:

  • You have a good understanding of molecular biophysics or cell biology

Education and training:

Competences:

  • You enjoy working in an academic, interdisciplinary research environment
  • You can work independently and enjoy working in a team
  • You have excellent organizational skills

The successful candidate will have a great degree of scientific freedom in a fully funded position and without grant writing obligations. Salary will be commensurate with research experience.
