Applicants should send a CV, contact information for two references, and a cover letter outlining their interest in the position and their relevant skills and experience to Jacob Allgeier ([email protected] ) and Deron Burkepile ([email protected] ). Review of applications will begin March 15, 2024. The start date can be flexible.

We are seeking bright quantitative scientists that can bring new, innovative, and exciting perspectives to our lab. The goals of the fellowship are intentionally broad and highly flexible.

The Allgeier lab at the University of Michigan and the Burkepile lab at UC Santa Barbara are looking for a postdoctoral fellow to lead the analysis of time series datasets from the Moorea Coral Reef Long Term Ecological Research site (MCR LTER ) to examine the spatiotemporal relationships between fish and benthic communities. Specifically, we have developed extensive empirical estimates of fish excretion and stoichiometry and are interested in understanding how these and other attributes of fishes relate to changes in benthic dynamics over time and space.

The position requires a PhD in ecology, coral or fish biology, or a related field by the intended start date. The ideal applicant would have strong quantitative skills, particularly with some combination of time series models, population models, bioenergetic models, or nutrient dynamics models. The applicant should demonstrate prior success in publication of original research. There is no prerequisite that the applicant has worked in tropical marine ecosystems.

The position comes with a competitive salary and benefits and is for 1 year with the potential of an extension for up to one or more years depending on performance and funding. The fellow will be based in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, however there would be opportunity to spend some time at UC Santa Barbara collaborating with MCR LTER scientists. The fellow will also be encouraged to engage in the many opportunities for data science and machine learning/AI opportunities at the University of Michigan.
