General Notes

This is a grant funded position with an end date of 5/31/2025, renewable based upon availability of funding, work performance, and progress toward research goals.

This full-time position will assist with ongoing and new research studies in the Fonzo Lab at Dell Medical School, UT Austin, which are funded by NIMH and several private foundations. There will be opportunities for on-the-job professional education, training, and co-authorship on research manuscripts from laboratory work. Purpose

The research associate will be responsible for recruiting subjects and coordinating scheduling of participant visits, participant reimbursement, and other administrative duties, maintaining positive relationships with research participants and laboratory volunteers, and organizing and facilitating meetings and educational opportunities. The associate will furthermore assist in collection of data, including clinical interview, self-report, functional neuroimaging measures acquired on a magnetic resonance imaging scanner, and electroencephalograms in healthy individuals as well as those with affective disorders, including bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and depression. Candidates will also have the opportunity to organize data and assist the principal investigator with data analysis and interpretation, manuscript writing, and presentation of results.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, conduct, and analyze research projects as part of a team of faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate assistants.

  • Assist the lab with subject recruitment and administrative duties.

  • Assist with manuscripts and publications.

  • Other related duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, neuroscience, engineering, computer science, or another STEM-related field. Professional demeanor with tact and respect at all times. Ability to address individuals and health-related information with a high degree of sensitivity and confidentiality in various delicate, formal or urgent situations. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work independently and troubleshoot difficulties. High level of self-care and stress management skills. Outstanding organizational and time-management skills. Demonstrated critical thinking skills and excellent attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to work well with a broad group of faculty, staff, and students, including the willingness and ability to train and oversee volunteers, undergraduate, and graduate students. Applicant must be comfortable working in an MR scanner environment, and eventually in operating the scanner (on the job training will be provided). Must be comfortable interacting with and working with people living with psychiatric disorders, including eventual conduction of clinical interviews (the PI will provide training). Must be willing to occasionally work some nights and/or weekends as needed to facilitate data collection and/or impending deadlines. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.


Preferred Qualifications

Prior research experience actively working in data collection in a psychology, psychiatry, social work, counseling, or human subjects biomedical research laboratory is a plus, but not required. Previous experience with MRI and/or electroencephalogram acquisition or analysis is a plus. Background in and experience with programming, statistics, and imaging methods preferred. Experience in standardized behavioral/neuropsychological assessments and clinical research is also preferred.


Salary Range

$40,000 + depending on qualifications
