General Notes

This is a grant funded position for one year and renewable based upon availability of funding, work performance, and progress toward research goals. The position is fully on-site.

The Melamed lab studies autoimmune neurological diseases. The applicant will work on immunology and molecular experiments in the wet-lab.  There will also be patient-facing time for research study participant recruitment and conduction of research visits.

The Soloveichik lab develops nucleic-acid-based nanotechnology and uses DNA to create artificial biomolecular circuits and other DNA-based technologies. The applicant will conduct experimental protocols such as gel assays, gel purification, PCR, etc.


Purpose

In this position, the applicant will assist with research studies in the Melamed and Soloveichik labs. This position also involves administrative tasks, working with the PIs, departments, sponsors, and institution to support the compliance, financial, personnel and other related aspects of the clinical studies.


Responsibilities

  • Implement experimental studies in the wet-lab, such as process patient samples,  carry out cellular and serologic immunology assays, perform PCR and gel electrophoresis.

  • Assist with the recruitment of research project participants.

  • Help to prepare regulatory proposals for the IRB and IACUC. Collaborate to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and standards. Assist with responding to and preparing for audits.

  • General laboratory duties will include record keeping, ordering, preparation of lab stocks and lab organization and interface with Department personnel involved in ordering.


  • Other related duties as assigned.



Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or related area. Experience with basic cell and molecular biology techniques and outstanding skills in communication, writing, and working in a team setting.  Examples include: PCR, gel electrophoresis and purification, working with patient samples. A successful candidate will have the ability to communicate with others in a clear, understandable and professional manner on the phone and in person; demonstrate use of good written and verbal communication skills;  possess effective project management skills, including the ability to plan, organize and schedule work in an efficient and productive manner, focusing on key priorities and meeting deadlines; possess great attention to detail and effective follow-through; have initiative to complete tasks before being asked and be able to independently manage studies, as well as have ability to address individuals and information with a high degree of sensitivity and confidentiality in various delicate, formal or urgent situations; be flexible and adaptable to change. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.



Preferred Qualifications

Experience with working patient coordination.


Salary Range

$40,000 + depending on qualifications
