The Advanced Materials Characterization Group that is part of the Structural Materials (SM) Division at the University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI) is seeking a highly motivated and talented software programmer to join a multidisciplinary research group to investigate and validate advanced EBSD indexing techniques for high-precision orientation determination. This position is located at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) in the Materials and Manufacturing Directorate on Wright Patterson Air Force Base. The successful candidate is expected to implement electron channeling contrast imaging (ECCI) for in-SEM microstructural investigation and optimize serial section techniques for 3D data collection and reconstruction. Additional attributes sought include strong interpersonal and communication skills, detail oriented and capable of completing multiple time-sensitive tasks, able to prioritize workloads, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment with minimal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ph.D. degree in Materials Science, or related field.
• One year of directly related experience.
• Strong background in mathematics and statistical modeling.
• Experience programming in Matlab and Python.
• Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both written and verbally.
• Due to requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. Citizen.

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

• Demonstrated programming experience in Matlab and Python for data experimental analysis.
• Demonstrated experience developing professional software packages and the full software development cycle.
