Carnegie Mellon University’s department of Mechanical Engineering is searching for a Research Engineer to join their team.  This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by supporting the scientific team through hardware development, prototyping, design reviews, hardware verification and validation, quality assessments, and conducting experiments under the direction of the scientific team and such other tasks that are assigned to you.

Professor Webster-Woods (B.O.R.G) research focuses on the use of organic materials as structures, actuators, sensors, and controllers toward the development of biohybrid and organic robots and biohybrid prosthetics.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with the design and fabrication of new prototypes to support FRESH and LFE-FRESH printing.

  • Prototyping and testing of novel collagen extrusion systems.

  • Reporting of progress and design revisions

  • Documenting all designs and testing.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • MS in Mechanical Engineering

  • A minimum of 6 months of experience

  • Familiarity with electrocompaction of collagen, familiarity with FRESH printing, replistruder fabrication, and LFE-FRESH systems

  • Proficient in Solid Modeling

  • Expert in Laser Cutting

  • Expert in 3D printing

  • Proficient in electronics

  • Proficient in FRESH printing with abiotic materials

  • Familiar with electrocompaction of collagen

  • Proficient in replistruder assembly and testing

Requirements:

  • Successful background check
