Position Highlights Please note: Information about the review timeline for applications has been added to the Position Highlights. This posting is for a summer research position. The selected applicant will conduct a summer research project related to the development of optical/UV astronomical instrumentation and the observational properties of ionized gas around nearby galaxies. The purpose of this position is to constitute an introductory experience to astronomical data collection/analysis, hands on laboratory experience, and/or software/GUI experience. The focus will be on working with and analyzing research data.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • With direct supervision by supervisor and utilizing established processes and procedures, works with researchers in designing studies, reviewing data, and publishing results.  Gathers and performs initial analysis of data from various databases and sources; helps develop reports and visual representations.
  • Under direct supervision, facilitates, implements, evaluates, and performs a wide variety of research programs or initiatives following routine processes and procedures to introduce the development of Optical/UV instrumentation.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program (Associate's or Bachelor's) studying a related discipline (e.g., Astronomy, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering).
