Position Highlights

Dr. Travis Wheeler's lab at the R. Ken Coit College of Pharmacy invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Research Data Support Specialist I. This position will assist in a software project for analyzing protein structures in the context virtual screening for drug binding activity.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Under supervisor and team member guidance, gather data from relevant internet databases and organize on a shared group server
  • Assist team members in writing software for parsing and gathering data from the datasets
  • Perform data analysis and generate figures describing results of analysis. Software will be written in the Python language according to specifications determined by supervisor.
  • Assist team to ensure that software meets functional and aesthetic requirements as established by supervisor.
  • Work with team members and participate in software testing, documentation, and release management. These efforts will support both the developer's projects and those of others in the group.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient integration of efforts, including code integration and review.
  • Document and present architectural and design decisions to collaborators and project manager.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • General knowledge with protein structural biology and drug discovery.
  • Effective communication skills in scientific concepts.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least one year of experience with pymol/ChimeraX.
  • Programming experience.
  • Experience with Python, linux environment, or HPC systems.
