Position Overview
The position in the Neuromuscular Physiology of Movement Laboratory coordinates experiments and manages laboratory activities involving human participants that are central to a National Institute of Aging grant investigating the mechanisms of fatigability in older people with prediabetes and diabetes, and the protective effects of exercise. The role is expected to oversee research participant recruitment, screening and scheduling, aid with participant testing and assessments, oversee exercise training studies and data collection, regulatory research documents and general laboratory operations and management.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Manage and coordinate scientific research studies on the mechanisms of whole limb fatigue and exercise-training of older people by organizing research participant recruitment, screening and scheduling, and aid with assessments of their physical function, and collection of questionnaire and activity data.
2. Lead and assist with all experimental studies and exercise training.
3. Oversee onboarding of student researchers, standard operation procedures and safety protocols.
4. Monitor laboratory expenses and assist with budgetary responsibilities.
5. Perform statistical analyses of data; operate, calibrate, and perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment and maintain laboratory supplies.
6. Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology/Science, Kinesiology, Human Movement, Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation
A minimum of one year experience in one of the following or a related field: Exercise Physiology/Science, Kinesiology, Human Movement, Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation.
Experience with measurement and analysis of strength, torque, electromyography, and using dynamometers and exercise training of older adults.
Experience or willingness to learn website management.
Must be willing to work flexible hours as necessary.
The successful candidate will be expected to exhibit individual initiative and work independently, but also be able to work well in a team.
Must possess strong communication and organizational skills, have thorough knowledge of exercise-based studies/procedures, be technically proficient and accurate with data collection and record keeping, and effectively communicate in both written reports and presentations.
Fluency in the English language is essential along with strong communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology/Science, Kinesiology, Human Movement, Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation preferred.
Experience working with older people and those with diabetes and exercise training is preferred.
Experience with measurement and analysis of strength, torque, electromyography, and using dynamometers and exercise training of older adults.
