Position DescriptionThe primary function of this position is to manage and assist with all processes in an animal laboratory. The main responsibilities will be to provide surgical support, expertise, training and mentorship to faculty, staff, and students. This position requires experience with animal management, surgeries, dissections, use of laboratory equipment, behavioral assessments, colony management and related software. Attention to detail and strong interpersonal and time management skills are a must.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform behavioral testing and animal care
- Perform all aspects of surgery including controlled substance management
- Manage regulatory compliance and coordinate IACUC protocols
- Maintain the research laboratory facilities and equipment, including ordering necessary equipment and supplies and inventory control
- Participate in the planning and development of general goals for the research project and laboratory
- Develop and test experimental designs, sampling techniques, and analytical methods and make recommendations for utilization; assist in the establishment of test controls, criteria, and research standards
- Conduct and coordinate experimental tests and plan the processing and analysis of research data
- Instruct, train, and supervise graduate students and research staff
- Maintain mouse colonies and update census databases daily
