We seek a Full-Time Research Coordinator III to join the UTHealth School of Public Health's Department of Behavioral Sciences. This team includes community health workers, intervention and implementation researchers, statisticians, data collectors, and clinic and community-based organization partners across Texas. In this position, you will manage a large community-based breast and cervical cancer screening and HPV vaccination intervention project, including coordinating CHW- and navigator delivery of the intervention activities, social marketing strategies, and community organization collaborations - to extend the reach of the evidence-based intervention to Latina women across four areas in Texas. You will also manage the day-to-day process and outcome evaluation activities and prepare reports summarizing progress to the funding agency.

Position Summary:

The overall goal of the project, Salud en Mis Manos (SEMM): An Evidence-Based Breast & Cervical Cancer Early Detection and Prevention Program for Underserved Latinas (Lara S. Savas, PI) is to increase mammography, cervical screening, and HPV vaccination among underserved women in the South Texas Gulf Coast, Greater Houston area, and West Texas. The research coordinator will assist with the day-to-day research and intervention project management and will provide scientific direction to support evaluation activities. The multi-level, multi-component program includes behavioral intervention and social marketing components and is of considerable scope and complexity. Coordination activities include planning and oversight of intervention delivery, community outreach and partner engagement, and social marketing strategies. The Coordinator will also manage process and outcome evaluation activities and the preparation of reports to the funding agency. The coordinator will engage with the PI to ensure the implementation of the project in a manner that maintains within budget, funding goals, and objectives, on schedule, and of the highest quality.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Oversees all aspects of the program activities. Sets deadlines, assigns responsibilities, and monitors project progress. Develops, implements, and manages intervention protocols and procedures.
  • Manages annual/grant budget, negotiates service contracts, manages invoices by contracting community organizations and clinics, and/or authorizes expenditures.
  • Ensures adherence to project protocols and tracking procedures to ensure the quality of work, completion of performance measurement, and grant delivery and reporting on objectives are met.
  • Engages in team science, ensuring collaborative partnerships. Coordinates our project team and community organizations and partners to coordinate project outreach in underserved communities to increase the reach of the CHW-delivered intervention and social marketing campaigns.
  • Oversees communications, internal and external, including community engagement activities. Working in conjunction with Public Affairs and liaising with UTHealth Communications, to create and promote program communication materials, which may include printed materials, website content and/or radio or television interviews to increase awareness of the SEMM program, cancer screening, and HPV vaccination recommendations.
  • Prepares PowerPoint slide decks and posters for professional meetings, and assists in writing and providing reference support for manuscripts for publication.
  • Prepares draft reports to the funding agency, and may assist in the preparation of grant proposals to governmental agencies.
  • Manages Human Resources activities for direct reports including recruitment and selection, hiring and terminating, training and development, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
  • Ensures project controls, tracking and performance measurement, and reporting and product delivery objectives are met.
  • Informs upper management of key activities and makes periodic progress reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Certification/Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. Working knowledge of MS Office.
  • Preferred: Certification from the Society of Clinical Research Associates (SOCRA), Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP), Research Administrators Certification Council (RACC), Certified IRB Professional (CIP) or, Regulatory Affairs Certification (RAC).
  • Depending on clinical trial, if nursing type duties are required, an RN license issued by the state of Texas is required.

Preferred:

  • Proficiency in the use and development of surveys on REDCap and Qualtrics
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish – including reading, writing, and speaking.

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or relevant experience in lieu of education. A Master's Degree is preferred.

Minimum Experience:

  • Five (5) years of relevant experience. May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects. 
This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents.
