Description of Work Unit
Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. The Microbiology, Immunology and Pathology (MIP) Department is comprised of over 400 individuals who share a common passion for solving some of the most important human and animal health problems today. Research programs include those related to mycobacteria, retroviruses, prions, and arthropod-borne infectious diseases, as well as the diagnostic investigation of naturally-occurring animal diseases. A leader in education, MIP provides the only microbiology undergraduate degree program in Colorado, a graduate program that provides training in a number of cutting-edge disciplines, and several specialized veterinary residency training programs.
Position Summary
The individual in the position will serve as project manager, lead training and record-keeping and assist with the collection, reporting, and analysis of research data in a BSL2 and BSL3 research environment. The position is responsible for monitoring the finances of projects, supporting the writing and management of new grant, contract, research service applications, and assisting with compliance with regulations involving animal use, controlled substances, and biohazardous research.
Required Job Qualifications
  • Minimum qualification for this position is a Masters Degree in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or related field
  • Minimum two years’ experience in laboratory management
  • Demonstrated sensitivity in working with persons from other cultures
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Experience in infectious disease research
  • Experience in training, teaching and/or consultancy in life science research
  • Knowledge in proteomics
  • Knowledge in mass spectrometry data analysis
  • BSL-3 laboratory experience
  • Experience in confocal or electron microscopy

  • Program planning, monitoring, record keeping, evaluation, and reporting; including establishing systems to schedule service center requests, workshops, and other events, preparing reports and editing scientific documents, and managing budgets and accounts.

  • Provide technical support / scheduling of maintenance for RBL service center capital assets. 
  • Provide and/or coordinate training on RBL capital assets / initial data analyses.
